This must include x86 hardware, NetApp Storage, Windows 2003/2008, server migration tools P2V process and recent Windows 2003/2008 Server administration. * A significant working history of software product installation, customization, testing, software maintenance, and problem diagnosis is also required.
Experience:
- Six (6) + years hands-on experience supporting server infrastructure in a large enterprise environment.

- Maintain Active Directory domain; create and maintain Group Policies; support member servers in the

Our client has an immediate contract position for a Sr. Microsoft Systems Engineer to perform engineer design, capacity planning, implementation and support of Systems infrastructure, Server and Network systems. The Systems Engineer will participate on project teams and also become involved in operational projects aimed at improving business partner and technical operations. The major focus of this position will be to Support the O&M and consolidate Windows Servers to an existing ESX environment. Other responsibilities of this position include test, tune and document the deployment and environment for support. Provide third-level support, project handover documentation/training and general technical guidance to the Support teams. Applies senior diagnostic techniques to identify problems, investigate causes and recommend solutions to correct common failures. Escalates and explains complex issues to non-technical management. He/she must have strong customer service awareness as well as written and oral communications proficiency.
Works closely with business partners at all levels. Role requires developed communication and diplomacy skills. Partners with Field employees and management at all levels. Builds relationships and partners with external vendors.
Technical Responsibilities
This engineer is to be well versed in DFS-R and Active Directory.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills; capable of writing purchase justifications, training users in complex topics, making presentations to an internal audience, and interacting positively with upper management.
- A solid understanding of an operating system; understands paging and swapping, inter-process communications, devices and what device drivers do, file system concepts (inode, clustering, logical partitions), can use performance analysis to tune systems.
- Take on a creative and visionary role, promote new ideas, strategies, technologies and concepts to improve quality and reduce costs
- Conduct environmental evaluation, coordination, scheduling, and execution of host migrations to SAN Storage.
- Maintain the highest level of availability, reliability and performance for VMware and associated products
- Software product installation, configuration management, maintenance, testing and documentation of VMware and related products
- Conduct and participate in meetings, reviews and process improvement activities
- Resolve problems, conduct advanced research, and identify product/service innovations
- Release management of Hot Fixes and Service Packs for production deployment by another team
- Provide training to other engineers
Compile and report metrics for management
Cross train into other software products when needs arise
- Produce environmental architecture and standard operating procedure documentation.

Project Responsibilities:
- Support the planning and installation of new systems and upgrades.
- Physical-to-virtual conversion of Windows servers.
- Demonstrate a good understanding of project management and full project life cycle.
- Proactively identify problems and potential areas for improvement and translate those into work requests/business proposals.
- Provide input to a task level work plan, identifying activities and hours estimates for all systems development lifecycle phases of the effort.
- Develop technical design specifications.
- Participate in vendor software evaluations as necessary.
