Job DescriptionField Associate/Research TechnicianThroughout the 20th century, BASF has played a leading role in agriculture and nutrition. BASF Plant Science (BPS) was founded in 1998 and is represented at seven sites in four countries. With this international network of expertise, BPS is especially well equipped to be a leader in plant biotechnology, creating and commercializing innovative products to help keep the world\‘s growing population well fed in the 21st century. The Field Associate will be a member of the Seed Activities team within the BASF Plant Science organization. This team performs critical activities necessary to advance BPS\‘s plant breeding and biotechnology projects from idea to marketplace as fast and effectively as possible. This position is responsible for support all activities of the research program. These include, but are not limited to, the processing, counting and assembly of seed for nursery, ICB\‘s, and yield trials, scouting nurseries for insects and diseases, planting, detasseling, hand pollination in summer and winter nurseries, harvesting of nursery and yield trial plots. Use of transport vehicles to move research equipment and operate such equipment, including performance of periodic inspections and maintenance of field and lab equipment, is required. This position will also be responsible for the supervision of seasonal temporary help.Required:BS degree in agricultural or related field or associates degree with 3 years experience in the agricultural area or seed research. BASF recognizes Institutions of Higher Education that are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent.Ability to communicate and interact with the Nursery and Plant Breeding Supervisor and other research personnel, both at this and other research locations.Demonstrated experience using transport vehicles to move research equipment and operate such equipment, including performance of periodic inspections and maintenance of field and lab equipment.Commercial Driver\‘s License (CDL) and Department of Transportation (DOT) certifications upon or required within 6 months of hire date.Restricted Use Pesticide Applicators license upon or acquired within 6 months of hire date. Must have outdoors field work experience and the ability and willingness to work in adverse environmental conditions including heat, cold, wind, rain, and sunshine.Willingness to commit to working in winter nurseries, which include Hawaii and Puerto Rico, for up to 2 weeks at a time.Willingness to work overtime, to include weekends as necessary.Basic computer skills.Desired:Experience in seed corn research.Experience supervising seasonal and temporary personnel. A farm background. Intermediate computer skills using email, MS office products, plant breeding research databases, and web.
