Performs chair side dental assisting; performing oral prophylaxis, fluoride treatments, oral examinations, charting and sealants on patients; taking, developing and mounting radiographs; removing sutures and dressings; applying topical anesthetic agents; scaling and root planning; sterilization procedures and basic cleaning of dental instruments, equipment and supplies; assisting dentists during operative procedures; instructing patients, parents, and guardians on oral hygiene; providing age and developmental appropriate care to infants, children, adolescents, and adults; participating in departmental programs for Quality Assessment and Improvement and working with department management to improve services provided; maintaining complete and accurate dental records; takes and records vital signs; takes and processes dental x-rays; maintains film developing machine; assists in developing and implementing the patient care plan; assists dentist in preparing and maintaining clinical progress notes; provides patient education and follow up information; participate in performance improvement activities; and performs other duties as assigned or requested. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of federal statutes and the Montana Code Annotated related to dental practice; County policies and procedures; policies and procedures; clerical practices and procedures; HIPAA requirements; dental terminology; dental office procedures, practices and methods; principles and practices of dental health and prevention; infection control measures and practices. QUALIFICATIONS: The above knowledge, skills, and abilities are acquired through a combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an ADA-accredited dental hygiene program and current license with Montana Board of Dentistry as a Registered Dental Hygienist. X-ray processing, public sector health clinic and one (1) year of dental hygienist experience preferred
