Product Development - Share responsibility for ensuring that thecompany's variable products and administration of products are in compliance with the relevant federal regulations. Assist with the legal component of variable product development, including interacting with all departments to develop product specifications, policy forms, contracts, prospectuses. Draft, update, and file separate account registration statements, prospectuses, and exemptive applications.
Compliance - Provide assistance with legal guidance to the separate accounts chief compliance officer. Assist in recommending standards, processes and procedures that ensure on-going federal regulatory compliance of products. Secure and communicate SEC comments andregulatory approvals as required. Provide compliance support on various state insurance department matters, including filing and obtaining variable plans of operation and variable authority.
Job Requirements (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities)
Member in good standing to a state bar association Strong verbal, written and presentation skills with the ability to articulate important legal concerns/principles in a compelling manner to a diverse set of business units Ability to work independently and under tight deadlines Ability to understand how the relevant laws impact company products, their administration, marketing, and pricing Ability to understand and interpret complex legal and regulatory concepts and ability to explain those concepts for application within the organization Ability to understand and apply insurance and securities laws to ensure that policy forms, contracts, registration statements, and related administrative procedures are in compliance with those laws Knowledge of variable insurance products Knowledge of state and federal securities laws relevant to the development of variable products preferred
Education and Experience Required
J.D. from recognized law school 3 years experience as a variable products attorney. Strong candidates without securities or insurance industry experience will be considered.
