Director of Law Library
at confidential in Missoula, MT
The Director of the Law Library teaches research and other related areas. The Director is responsible for overseeing all aspects of library operations including managing the Library fs daily activities, strategic planning, collection development, and leading a staff of two librarians, two support staff, two IT department staff members, and student workers. In addition, the Director leads the Law Library and consults with the Dean in determining library policy, administering library programs and furthering the mission of the Law Library and UMLS. The Law Library is committed to serving students, faculty, alumni, and members of the bench, bar, and public.
The Director is responsible for setting the library budget in consultation with the dean, administrating the library 's budget, and ensuring library resources are used to successfully support the Law School fs research, teaching, and service missions. The Law Library operates as a unit within the Law School and the Law Library Director works collaboratively with administrators and personnel with the main university library. The Director of the Law Library reports directly to the Dean and serves as a tenure-track member of the faculty. Individuals applying for this position should demonstrate a strong commitment to scholarship as well as an active involvement in professional organizations such as the American Association of Law Libraries, the Association of American Law Schools, and the American Bar Association.
Qualifications
JD degree from an ABA accredited law school and a M.L.S. degree from an ALA-accredited library school A superior academic background Substantial practical experience Effective teaching Effective scholarship The ability to work collegially with students, staff, faculty, and external constituencies of the Law School Creativity, resourcefulness, fairness, compassion, and initiative Program Overview/Environment The Law Library is one of the state fs largest law libraries. It serves a student body of about 250 students, a faculty of 27 full- and part-time professors, numerous adjunct professors, an active Montana legal community, and the general public.
The Law Library Director must have strong communication skills, supervisory experience in an academic or library setting, and knowledge of emerging technologies and their application. The Law Library Director oversees the IT department and works with the Law School fs Dean to further the Law Library fs mission of providing essential legal research tools and instruction on their proper use.
