PURPOSE OF JOBUnderwrites individual life and health insurance applicants according to established guidelines for the issuance of policies and within the approved binding authority. Determines whether to accept, modify, or decline a risk through evaluation of an individual's medical history or physical condition, occupational hazards, financial background, insurable interest and other information pertinent to the decision.
JOB DUTIES Examines application forms, medical reports, and investigative reports to determine degree of risk and adequacy of underwriting information. Reviews and approves clean cases up to approved binding authority limit and interprets EKG tracings.Discusses rate class recommendations and status of files, requests additional underwriting information for proper risk assessment, and explains underwriting decisions with internal and external customers.Consults with reinsurers to place coverage or to discuss reinsurance decisions.Resolves routine to moderately complex customer complaints and issues.Minimum RequirementsBachelor's degree (or equivalent work experience).4 years financial services experience.2 years underwriting experience in the state of Nebraska (due to licensing).Intermediate knowledge of the industry and life insurance and health products and services.AALU coursework 101, 201, and 202 completed.Preferred Fellow of the Academy of Life Underwriting (FALU) and Fellow, Life Management Institute (FLMI) designations.Job related education including coursework in physiology and/or biology.
