Performs testing, troubleshooting, calibration, configuration
and repair of process instrumentation and control systems as planned,
scheduled and assigned of both simple and complex systems. Includes
gathering and analyzing data to determine cause.
· Completes and updates documentation of files, records,
databases, and drawings to meet regulatory and BASF requirements.
· Requests and obtains job permits in close coordination with
operations personnel
· Seeks compliance with all environmental, safety, and health
requirements, and promotes a safe working environment. Understands,
participates, and implements when appropriate MOCs, PSSRs, PHAs, PSM,
and ISO audits.
· Able to perform all work tasks independently and provide
advanced assistance to others.
· Develops, initiates, preventive and predictive maintenance
activities for existing and new instrumentation and automation equipment.
· Attends and participates in professional groups, conferences,
training seminars, and meetings as required to maintain and further
develop instrumentation skills.
· Performs basic and advanced CMMS (Computer Maintenance
Management System) tasks. BASF CMMS = SAP These include: Work
Notifications/Work Orders, purchase requisitions, job planning and
scheduling, Bill of Materials (BOMs), cost analysis and other reports to
manage and optimize work.
· Identify and provide corrective actions to eliminate
reliability issues with instrumentation equipment and loops
· Troubleshoot and repair 480VAC 3 phase integrated motor
controls as well as 120VAC control circuits.
· Maintain critical instrumentation parts inventories adequate to
prevent downtime.
· Interface with vendors to specify parts, and obtain latest
technical information.
· Troubleshoot PLC problems through knowledge of PLC logic,
operations, communication networks (Ethernet), control networks and
their interfaces.
· Provide intermediate programming and configuration of the
process control system for changed and process improvements required by
operations and small capital project support.
· Tune control loops as needed
· Work effectively with co-workers and others (internal and
external) by sharing findings in a constructive and positive manner,
listening to and objectively considering ideas and suggestions for
others, keeping commitments, and keeping others informed of work
progress, timetables, and issues.

Technical Instrument Associates Degree (2yr degree) with
a minimum of 5 years experience in industrial instrumentation maintenance.
· External candidates must successfully pass BASF pre-employment
selection test.
· Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Allen Bradley PLC systems
(hardware and software logic) and HMI interface software (Wonderware)
· Advanced knowledge of integrated motor control s and Allen
Bradley VFD's
· Strong knowledge of process control preferably in the chemical
industry
· Ability to configure, calibrate, and maintain calibration of
instrumentation.
· Ability to install, checkout, and commission complex equipment
· Ability to effectively handle multiple tasks simultaneously
· Self directed - requires minimal supervision
· Knowledge of gas burners and associated control systems
· Working knowledge of SAP maintenance system is a plus
· Intermediate to advanced computer skills
· Ability to work a flexible schedule, and respond to call-ins
and impromptu overtime on nights and weekends.
