● Technical Qualifications:
o Bachelor degree in Computer Science or equivalent work experience
o Strong customer service skills
o 7-10 years of UNIX Systems administration experience
o 5+ years Veritas clustering
o Enterprise SAN implementation and management experience, specifically on EMC, Sun 6140, Hitachi 9958 platforms
o 5+ years supporting UNIX administration for database environments
● Required Technical Stack:
o Must posses a high level knowledge of Solaris
o Support experience including; system tuning, backups, highly available infrastructures including Sun
o Cluster Server SAN administration, and Veritas NetBackup.
o Solaris 10 Zones and LDOMs
o UNIX command line involving a variety of utilities, interpreters and compilers and have shell programming skills.
o Scripting experience (Perl, CSH, BASH, etc.)
o Network technologies (VLAN tagging, link aggregation, multipathing)
o Systems and network monitoring (SNMP, host based monitoring agents, web monitoring, hardware monitoring)
● Preferred and PLUS skills:
o Linux operating system experience a PLUS.
o VMWare ESX is a PLUS
o Oracle RAC is a PLUS
● Personal Attributes
o Must have a strong command of customer interactions and have the ability to drive technical discussions.
o Must exhibit a strong sense of ownership and urgency in handling critical incidents.
o Exhibit strong leadership skills
o On call and weekend work is expected.


We have a stable 6 month PLUS contract (renewed in 6 month intervals) located in the Rochester NY area. This is a “Hands-on” on-site Operational Support contract working with a well known and highly respected Sun Systems Supplier. The end-user client is in the fore-front of Medical Technologies offering complex and fascinating system challenges in performance, data transport, storage and availability. This is a marquee contract assignment that will enhance your professional value.
● Role and Responsibilities:
O Perform installation, customization and maintenance of the operating system and system software products in support of business requirements
o Evaluate and integrate new operating system versions, drivers and hardware
o Monitor and tune systems to achieve optimum performance levels
o Perform system software maintenance and product upgrade
o Conduct system analysis, configuration management and develops improvements for system software performance, availability and reliability
o Perform incident resolution, problem determination and root cause analysis in accordance with service level agreements
o Provides in-depth diagnosis for operating systems software/hardware failures and develops solutions
o Implement and maintain appropriate levels of system security
o Provides technical expertise for system transitions, migrations and consolidations
o Provides technical assistance and guidance to IT support staff, including but not limited to, DBAs, network engineers, other system administrators, project managers, change managers and business development staff
o onduct project leadership activities for new system requirements on various projects for deployment of business functions on new servers.
