- Ten years UNIX engineering experience
- Three years engineering solutions for Solaris 10
- Project Management experience (The SE will own the project)
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills
- Five years experience leading small teams
- Extensive experience deploying Sun Solaris systems that support Oracle databases and application servers
- Extensive experience deploying Sun Solaris systems in a clustered fashion
- Extensive experience designing and deploying business continuity technologies that allow for Sun system availability in a disaster recovery center
- Extensive scripting capabilities (shell and Perl)
- Working knowledge of Symantec tools including Netbackup, VxFS, and VCS
- Knowledge of storage and network multi-pathing
- Experience supporting various SUN hardware models including Sun Fire E6900, v890, and V480, and newer class servers including T5440
- Extensive experience deploying server management tools including patch management, configuration management, and software discovery
PLUS: Certification in Solaris 10 is highly preferred
Our client has an opportunity for a Unix Systems Engineer to re-engineer their client’s UNIX application environments. The Unix SE will define, design and develop system requirements. Perform trade-off analyses of performance, life-cycle cost, risk, producibility, and other system or program requirements. Assess architecture and current hardware limitations, defines and designs system specifications, and evaluates input/output processes and working parameters for hardware/software compatibility. Coordinate design of subsystems and integration of total system. Define system support requirements. Analyze and resolve program support deficiencies. Conduct independent technical investigations in systems design. Evaluate vendor capabilities to provide required products or services
Daily Responsibilities Include:
- Design, test, install, configure and deploy new server architecture.
- Develop procedures for use by Operations staff.
- Provide Tier 3 support and troubleshooting.
Project Overview: Re-engineering the UNIX application environments for a large Federal Agency.
Our client will be:
- Replacing E6900 database servers with either M5000 or M8000 servers
- Deploying a number of smaller (T5440) servers for the web and application tiers
- Standing up an active-active server environment using Veritas Cluster Server for Web and QApp tiers, and Oracle RAC for the database tier.
