Senior UNIX System Administrator (Sun Solaris, Linux)

Technical Qualifications
- Bachelor degree in Computer Science or equivalent work experience
- Strong customer service skills
- 10-15 years of UNIX Systems administration experience
- 5+ years SAN Administration. Enterprise SAN implementation and management experience
- 5+ years supporting UNIX administration for database environments
- Must posses a high level knowledge of Solaris and Linux operating system administration.
- Support experience including; system tuning, backups, highly available infrastructures including Sun Cluster Server SAN administration, and Veritas NetBackup. Support exposure to Oracle RAC is a PLUS
- Experience with and understanding of virtualization technologies including Solaris 10 Zones, LDOMs, and VMWare ESX (PLUS)
- Must be highly proficient at the UNIX command line involving a variety of utilities, interpreters and compilers and have shell programming skills.
- Scripting experience (Perl, CSH, BASH, etc.)
- Experience with systems and network monitoring (SNMP, host based monitoring agents, web monitoring, hardware monitoring)
- Experience with systems network technologies (VLAN tagging, link aggregation, multipathing)

- On call and weekend work is expected.
- Selected Candidate will be working out of Sun’s Remote Operations Center. Preferred location is Fairport NY, 14450. Will also consider working out of Buffalo NY.
- This is a Remote Operations support position, supporting multiple enterprise clients.
- Perform installation, customization and maintenance of the operating
system and system software products in support of business requirements
- Perform system software maintenance and product upgrades.
- Evaluate and integrate new operating system versions, drivers and hardware.
- Monitor and tune systems to achieve optimum performance levels.
- Conduct system analysis, configuration management and develops improvements for system software performance, availability and reliability.
- Perform incident resolution, problem determination and root cause analysis in accordance with service level agreements.
- Provides in-depth diagnosis for operating systems software/hardware
failures and develops solutions.
- Implement and maintain appropriate levels of system security.
- Provides technical expertise for system transitions, migrations and consolidations.
- Provides technical assistance and guidance to IT support staff, including but not limited to, DBAs, network engineers, other system
administrators, project managers, change managers and business development staff
- Conduct project leadership activities for new system requirements on various projects for deployment of business functions on new servers.
